The banks were run by a bunch of incompetent people who could only think about their own selfish greed. Unfortunately nothing has been done to remedy this shameful situation. Things will only chane for the better when the big supermarket companies become a serious threat to the banks; it has to be remembered that most members of the public trust Tesco more than the failures at Lloyds or Northern Rock.

I find it troubling that the focal point for 'reform' is these hugely inefficient, exploitative, heavily subsidised, mightily challenged beasts, rather than facilitating the growth of lean, low cost, low risk alternatives.

Then again, maybe it's no bad thing to keep the 'great and the good' safely out of the way for a while...

Well said. Its not the banks that are the problem, its the vast debts that have been accumulated by the government.
