Reality Check

Are you sure that you wake up? Maybe you are still dreaming :-)

Chris Skinner

Aha ... you spotted that I went back to bed and woke up in 2013! Too right ...

Rik Coeckelbergs

Excellent!

As I think I know your political leaning, I feel obliged as not only an American, but a republican that one need look at Obama's etheral "approval ratings" as more of an "expectations" rating.

I believe many think Mr. Obama will snap his fingers and all will be right once again. I hope this would be true as much as anyone else, but as I look through the data coming in on the fourth quarter - I can't believe that will happen.

In fact, I think the bigger concern is the letdown that could ensue. The American left, the media - one in the same - have given Mr Obama a pass since the day after the election "Mr. Obama inherits an economic Pearl Harbor." Hey - nobody gets a pass in the office of the President - not even Mr. Obama.

I'm afraid that when the clock strikes 12:01AM on January 21, 2009, we'll see another several banks close, the auto sector closer to bankruptcy and spiraling credit costs in other consumer and commercial asset classes. Mssrs. Dimon, Lewis and Pandit have all indicated that the economic deterioration accelerated in December and US unemployment is rocketing towards, and likely past, 8%.

People will start asking - did the proverbial carriage turn into a pumpkin?

It's okay, at least we spent another $100M of borrowed money on his inauguration...I guess they call that stimulus. So much for Joe the plumber and his dreams to own his own business.

Hey Steve

Note there is humour in my wording. I'm not a Bush fan, nor a Democrat. I do recognise that Mr. Obama currently walks on water, but he also walks directly into the same situation that George W. is leaving, if not worse as this year ain't gonna get much better.

Nevertheless, because he's a Democrat, it's probable that he'll do well in overseas ratings if not domestic ones. Let's see what happens after the Honeymoon is over.

Meanwhile, my favourite video of January 20th:

Glad to hear it.

Nice article, but there is no 5 EUR coin. It is a bank note.

Chris Skinner

Hey Christian

You didn't get the joke!

This is four years in the future when €5 is worth less, so now it's a coin!

Chris

Selma

Dear Chris,
